Rural Addressing

Addressing is used to assist emergency personnel in locating residents that call 9-1-1.  Rural addressing applies to ALL areas within Park County including Wilsall, Clyde Park, Pray, Emigrant, Gardiner, Silver Gate, and Cooke City.

Existing Rural Addresses

  • Check if you have an official rural address here - using the search bar in the upper left corner.
  • Green Rural Fire # Stickers - please come by our office and we will replace at no cost.
  • USPS Mail Set Up- You will need an E-911 form (from our office) to bring to the post office as your proof of address to get USPS mail set up. Please ask your local post office about mail box location/placement.

Green Fire # Sticker Placement - Your address #'s should be posted where your driveway touches the road your address is off of, so emergency vehicles know where to turn. Please post them above snowline on the right side when you are facing the driveway towards your home. Shared driveways should have a cluster of addresses posted at the end of the driveway where it touches the road they are addressed off of, along with your address posted visibly on your home. Please be sure the numbers on your home are reflective or lit up for night time visibility.

Rural Address Application

To receive a rural address assignment, an owner/authorized agent must apply for a rural address.  The steps to apply are outlined below:

1. Open and Download the application (below)

2. Read the entire application

3. Fill out all applicable sections, please call or email us with any questions
  • To assign a rural address, we will need a legal description and GeoCode for the parcel receiving an address. This information can be found on your tax bill or on the State of Montana Cadastral website.
  • We strongly suggest waiting until you have a site plan before applying for an address as we will also need to know the general location of the driveway and structure on your property.

4. Bring your application into our office or send the complete application to the GIS department via email or mail along with the $50 application fee. We only accept checks or cash in exact change. Checks can be made out to Park County GIS.

Address CHANGES

Park County Rural Addressing works very hard to prevent problems with addressing before they arise but as the county continues to grow and more development occurs, there will inevitably be situations that require re-addressing.  There may also be re-naming of roads along with establishment of road names where necessary and re-addressing of non-complaint addresses to align with State of Montana standards and Enhanced 911 National Emergency Number Association (NENA) guidelines. The major purpose of an address change is to facilitate the easy and rapid location of properties by law enforcement, fire protection services, search and rescue, and emergency medical services to protect the public health of all persons living, working, or visiting Park County.
